In order to create new things, a certain amount of destruction is necessary. This is an inescapable reality that lies at the heart of the most impressive places that surround us. A monumental construction consumes the energy and sometimes lives of its builders, while also impacting on natural resources. Inevitably all manner of things are lost, wasted, and destroyed in the process.
In the Joseph Adams Galerie of Prague, a cultural icon, I have altered the perception of a room once used by Franz Kafka as a saloon, by replicating the ceiling, shattered on the floor. The displaced elements of the ceiling reveal a counterpart to its orderly decoration.
