In 1911 Egon Schiele moved to Cesky Krumlov where, with the help of a local artisan, he constructed a chair. Adorned with countless paint splashes and ink stains, this chair bore witness to Schiele’s creative pursuits. It is a historic and artistic relic that exudes Schiele’s charisma. I was able to borrow this chair from the Egon Schiele Art Centre in Cesky Krumlov and, mirroring Schiele’s experience, create a replica with the help of a local artisan. I then created another chair of identical dimensions made from epoxy resin and the sawdust and wood shavings that were produced from the construction of the first chair. These chairs are both a tribute and message to Schiele in which I am communicating the idea that the creation of an intended object inevitably results in the creation of an unintended object.
