To be human is to create. To create is to destroy. In making something useful I also make something that is not useful. Using the shape of an hourglass as a motif for time, I started carving the upper half of the stone. I then used the resulting tumble to create the lower half. Thus the two extremes of creation exist within one object. The object will never revert to its original form but, like the scattered sands of a Samsara Mandala, its existence continues regardless.
