This series is an exploration of the subject-object dichotomy and how it relates to the idea of negative space. I feel that in life and in art the ‘subject’ dominates perception and in doing so overshadows the importance of the ‘object’.
In this series, I am attempting to give the subject and object equal prominence. I have used a series of fissures on the glass plane to represent a world map. This fissure could be equated to the subjective line in a drawing but by using glass I feel that I bring more attention to the negative space. As the line is a fissure it is essentially nothing, while the negative space - the glass - is a tangible entity.
